How we see children

Every child is capable, curious and full of ideas. We give them time, real materials and people who listen.

How children learn here

Four ways into learning.

Click or tap to open. Each one is part of an ordinary day at Peacocks.

  • Photo · paint, clay, wire or music in progress

Paint, clay, wire, music, movement and talk. Children have many ways to say what they think, and we make room for all of them.

  • Photo · waiata or storytelling circle

Te reo Māori, tikanga and the stories of Aotearoa belong in every day, for every child.

  • Photo · hands sorting loose parts

Fabric, timber, stones and shells. Things that can become anything, so the child decides what they are.

  • Photo · children in the garden

Time outside, and the habit of looking after the plants, animals and places around us.

  3. Visit and ask anything

What is your approach to learning?

Peacocks is inspired by the preschools of Reggio Emilia in Italy and guided by Te Whāriki, the New Zealand early childhood curriculum. Children lead their own learning, and we make time, space and materials for it.
